What Is An Internet Marketing Mentor and Do You Need One?

When you’re starting out in the online marketing business one of the first questions you should ask yourself is What Is An Internet Marketing Mentor and Do I need One? The reason this should be one of the first questions asked by online marketers is because of all the information available out there.

It won’t take long before you’re overwhelmed with all the information available to “help” you grow your business. Before long you’ll begin to realize you’re paralyzed due to information overload.

Internet Marketing Mentor

Far to many people, especially network marketing newbies will put their hands in too many pots at the same time, chasing after too many “shiney” objects thereby spreading themselves too thin. This will eventually cause people to wonder, ‘maybe I should get someone who can show me how to do this.’

But what’s really important when it comes to a mentor/apprentice relationship is the very building of that relationship between the two. It must be a relationship built on trust and respect for one another. Without trust, the student will not respect the mentor and the relationship will fall apart.

The same holds true the other way. If the apprentice never listens to the mentor and doesn’t do as instructed, the mentor will lose all respect for the apprentice and again the relationship will fall apart.

Who are Internet Marketing Mentors

Mentors are people who teach you and coach you in the way to grow either mentally, spiritually or in business. You learn from them, and take pieces of wisdom that they teach you and emulate them by applying their wisdom and knowledge to your life or business.

Mentor’s are often thought of as experts or trusted leaders who normally help guide a person in a specific endeavor such as their career. A person who is a true mentor is someone who genuinely cares about their apprentice’s success and will go out of their way to help them succeed.

By going out and connecting with an internet marketing mentor in the beginning of your journey to success, you can avoid a lot of the pitfalls experienced by people who try to do everything on their own. For example a mentor can give you blog traffic generation tips to help you build your contact list.

Characteristics of Internet Marketing Mentors

When looking for a mentor you want to find someone who is interested in your success and not just his own. If he’s using you as his personal secretary – RUN!

Also, when looking for an internet marketing mentor you want to find someone who is easy to reach and that responds to your requests in a timely manner. I would recommend within 24 – 48 hours max. But if they are consistently taking longer than that it may mean that they are not really interested in helping you and it’s time to move on.

A good mentor should also lead by example. You should be able to tell if he/she is a hard worker and has been successful in his/her own business. Do some research, check out their website, Facebook profile etc. See if anyone is following them. If he/she has no followers you might want to look elsewhere.

Make sure your internet marketing mentor keeps you focused on one thing at a time and helps you overcome information overload. After all, that’s probably one of the reasons you came to him/her to begin with. You want to make sure they provide you with a one step at a time plan of action that you can duplicate easily.

If your mentor has you going after too many things at once you should question your him/her about this and if he/she says keep doing what you’re doing, you may want to start looking for another teacher.

Also, make sure your internet marketing mentor is teaching you at a level you can understand. If you’re just starting out in this industry, you don’t want someone showing you a bunch of advanced strategies which will only lead to confusion and frustration on your part.

You also want to work with a person who has a positive attitude. You want to work with someone who will compliment you once in a while when you do things right and are making good progress. Conversely you also want someone who isn’t afraid to give you constructive criticism when it’s needed. The person you want to avoid is someone who belittles you every time you make a mistake. This will only cause you to lose confidence in yourself and hold you back from attaining your goals.

As long as we’re talking about positive attitudes you should know that the same holds true on your end. If you want a mentor to work with you on a consistent basis and answer your questions in a timely manner, you don’t want to be whining to them every time they tell you to do some work. You need to be positive and do what your mentor tells you to do.

Unfortunately today, many people are sold a bill of goods that they can join any MLM company, throw up a website and make $50,000 per month inside of 30 days. If you believe this it’s time for a reality check.

It certainly is possible to make that kind of money in this industry, however it takes a lot of hard work and dedication. If you’re not willing to put in the time and effort necessary to succeed, even the best mentor in the world will not be able to help you.

Conclusion

So to conclude, never spend your money or get involved with an internet marketing mentor that is not truly interested in your success. So just locate an internet marketing mentor with the characteristics and abilities talked about above, and I have no doubt that you will have success online.

Here’s to your Success
